Getting started
What is Yummy?
Yummy is a social food app for South African cities. You post Yums (photo meal reviews), follow cooks, browse Discover, and chat in public city rooms. It is not a map, delivery, or booking app.
What is a Yum?
A Yum is a short meal review: a photo, the restaurant, ratings, and a note. You post from the Create tab after you pick a city.
How do I create an account?
Open Sign up and choose an email, a username (3–20 letters, numbers, or underscore), and a password. Passwords need 8+ characters with upper and lower case, a number, and a symbol. You can also tap Continue with Google on Login.
Why do I need to verify my email?
Email sign-up sends a verification link before you can use the app. Check inbox and spam, then return and tap the verify screen to continue. Use Resend if the email never arrived.
Can I sign in with Google or my username?
Yes. Login accepts your email or @username plus password, or Continue with Google. Google accounts get a username from your Google name — it cannot be changed later. Email sign-up lets you choose the username yourself.
How do I reset my password?
On Login, tap Forgot password? and enter your email or username. We send a reset link to the email on the account. Google-only accounts use Google’s own account recovery.
Cities & places
Which cities does Yummy cover?
Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, and Pretoria. Home, Discover, and chat show one city at a time. Switch city from the pin in the app bar. Your own Yums and saved places stay on your profile even if they are in another city.
Can I open a yum from another city?
Your profile still lists those Yums. Opening the full yum requires switching to that city. Home, Discover, and chat stay in the city you have selected.
How do I switch cities?
Tap the pin icon in the app bar and pick Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, or Pretoria. Create only lists restaurants in that city. Yummy never asks for GPS or location permission.
Why can’t I type any restaurant?
Places are listed by Yummy so every Yum tags a real, active vendor in your selected city. If a spot is missing, use Suggest a place in the menu, on Create, or in Settings.
How do I suggest a missing place?
Menu → Suggest a place (also in Settings and on Create). Send the name and city. We add the address if we list it. Suggestions are reviewed — they do not appear instantly.
Is there a map?
No in-app map, and we do not collect GPS. Open a restaurant page and tap Open in Maps to search Google Maps with the name and address.
Posting Yums
How do I post a Yum?
Open the Create tab: photo (camera or gallery, up to two), pick a listed restaurant in your city, choose a meal type, rate the place and the food, then write a 30–500 character note. The city is copied from the restaurant — you do not type it.
Can I edit or delete a Yum?
Open your Yum and use the menu. You can change ratings and the note, or replace a photo. Restaurant and meal type stay as posted. Delete removes it from feeds.
Feed & social
What is the difference between Home and Discover?
Home is your social feed: people you follow in the selected city first, then local Yums. Discover is the city’s table — categories, trending, latest, and search for places, people, and dishes.
How do follows work?
Follow cooks you like from a Yum, a profile, or chat. Following fills your Home circle and story row in the city you have selected.
What is the difference between saved places and bookmarks?
Bookmarks save Yums you want to reopen (menu → Bookmarks). Saved places (the heart on a restaurant page) keep vendors on your profile so you can open them later, including places in other cities.
Chat
Is chat private?
No. City rooms are public to everyone signed in. There are no private messages. Do not share phone numbers, addresses, or other private details. Read the chat room policy.
What are the chat rooms?
Each city has four public rooms: General, Yums, Vendors, and Recipes. Messages stay with that city. Use the report action on a message if something breaks the rules.
Account & safety
Can I change my username?
No. Your @username is locked after sign-up. Change display name, photo, and bio from Profile → Edit profile. Display name can change about once a week.
How do I report a Yum or a message?
Open the Yum or chat message and tap Report in the menu. We review reports for spam and abuse. For a safety issue you cannot report in-app, email support@yummyapp.co.za.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Profile menu → Settings → Delete account, then type DELETE. That signs you out and disables the login. Posts you already published may stay visible until moderated. If you cannot open the app, email support with the subject “Account deletion”.
How do I contact support?
Use Contact support in Settings, or see the support page.
